Which is better for home energy storage, lead-acid battery or lithium battery?

    Price comparison.

    The most crucial reason why lithium batteries cannot wholly replace lead-acid batteries is that lithium ion batteries are more expensive to sell than lead-acid batteries. At the same capacity, lead-acid batteries are technically mature and have low requirements for electrode materials, electrolytes and assembly environment, so lead-acid batteries are less costly. However, the preparation of lithium batteries is complex. It requires control of dust control requirements, relative humidity and precision, so the cost of lithium ion battery is more than three times more expensive than lead-acid batteries. Therefore, the lower price of lead-acid batteries makes them more attractive to users.

    Cycle life comparison.

    Lead acid batteries have a shorter cycle life than lithium iron phosphate batteries. Some lead-acid batteries have a cycle time of around 1000 cycles, whereas lithium batteries can have a cycle time of about 3000 cycles. Therefore, if the user uses lead-acid batteries in a solar power system, they will need to replace them frequently.

    Safety comparison.

    Lithium batteries are slightly less safe than lead-acid batteries, so they need to be used with various safety precautions, such as preventing external forces or accidents from causing damage to them.

    Charging time comparison.

    Lithium ion batteries can be charged faster at higher voltages, usually within 4 hours, while lead-acid batteries take 2 to 3 times to be fully charged.

    Memory effect comparison.

    Lead-acid batteries have a memory effect; if often fully charged but not fully discharged under the conditions of use, they easily lead to capacity below the rated capacity value. Lithium iron phosphate batteries do not have memory effects, and the battery can be charged or used at any time, no matter what state it is in.
